There are a number of different types of organisations that can be represented as Professional Bodies in the coaching and mentoring industry:
Accreditation Body Accreditation Bodies hold approval from one of the following: Department of Business, Innovation & Skills; United Kingdom Accreditation Service; European Accreditation; European Commission Accreditation Conformity; or similar from outside the UK/EU.
Chartered The authority to be recognised as Chartered comes from the Royal Prerogative, (the grant is made by the Sovereign (on the advice of the Privy Council)). Having gained recognition, the Chartered Organisations are subject to the general law, generally self-regulating and not answerable to the Privy Council or the Privy Council Office in relation to the conduct of its internal affairs.
