While the IRCM recognises that there are a number of good quality Coaches or Mentors that have not been formally trained, it is preferable that the Coach or Mentor is qualified.

As defined in the industry Terminology and Definitions, a qualification is awarded to each student (Coach and/or Mentor) through the successful achievement of their training on a course from a Formal Education Body, or Commercial Training Organisation.

Understanding the qualification of the Coach or Mentor is not always simple.  The reason is that the courses and/or workshops internationally meet different education standards.  For this reason, the IRCM recommends that the Coach and/or Mentor is accredited/credentialed by one or more Professional Bodies that are REGISTERED with or ACCREDITED by the IRCM, as the Professional Body will determine the level of qualification that each Coach and/or Mentor has achieved.

  • recommends that each Education Body verified by their own country's Department of Education is Registered with the IRCM.
  • recommends that each Training Organisation is Registered with the IRCM and accredited/credentialed by a Professional Body that is REGISTERED with or ACCREDITED by the IRCM.

.
The IRCM recognises that not all Coaches or Mentors are qualified, and it is for this reason that the IRCM recommends that each Coach and/or Mentor gains an accreditation/credential with a Professional Body that is REGISTERED with or ACCREDITED by the IRCM.

Although the IRCM requests that each Coach or Mentor indicates the length of their experience as a Coach or Mentor each Professional Body Recognised by or Registered with or Accredited by the IRCM verifies the validity of the Coaches' or Mentors' experience.

Each Professional Body has its own policies, procedures, and processes.  The IRCM can only determine the quality of the accreditation policies, procedures, and processes for those Professional Bodies that gain Accreditation with the IRCM.

As defined in the industry Terminology and Definitions, experience is simply professional knowledge and skill, acquired by professional practice.

Registration with the IRCM demonstrates the Coach, Mentor, Education Body, Training Organisation, or Professional Body's credibility.
.

Registration with the IRCM and accreditation/credential through a Professional Body that is REGISTERED with or ACCREDITED by the IRCM provides a more detailed awareness of a Coach, Mentor, or Training Organisation's qualifications and experience; and demonstrates their competence.

Education Bodies gain their accreditation/credentials through their country's Department of Education.
In addition to the Department of Education's accreditation/credentials, Registration with the IRCM demonstrates their commitment to the industry and demonstrates their competence in providing education/training in the coaching and mentoring industry.
.

While a Professional Body that is REGISTERED with the IRCM demonstrates that the Professional Body has agreed to demonstrate its credibility by meeting industry standards of professionalism and expertise in the Coaching and Mentoring industry.

A Professional Body that is ACCREDITED by the IRCM has demonstrated its proficiency through an independent verification and validation of its accreditation/credential policies and processes providing a much more detailed awareness of the Professional Bodies ability to accredit/credential its members (Coaches, Mentors, Training Organisations).
.

When a Coach, Mentor, or Training Organisation is independently validated by a REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Body, it ensures that the Coach, Mentor, or Training Organisation has met the required industry standards and has obtained the necessary knowledge and skills in their field of practice. This validation process typically involves a thorough review of the Coach, Mentor, or Training Organisation's education, training, and professional experience.
The IRCM recognises that a number of Coaches, Mentors, or course/workshop creators in a Training Organisation may not have formal education or training.  This is where the Professional Bodies have the processes to provide independent verification of these Coaches, Mentors, or Training Organisations.
.

While the IRCM recognises a number of Professional Bodies and these are Professional Bodies that have not agreed to adhere to the industry Codes of Conduct or recognise the Ombudsman Service; therefore the IRCM cannot validate the quality of accreditation/credentials.   For the benefit of the consumers (clients, customers, students, members) the IRCM's recommendation is that the Professional Body is REGISTERED with or ACCREDITED by the IRCM.

Agreeing to work within a single Code of Conduct in an industry means that individuals or organizations involved in that industry commit to adhering to a set of shared principles, standards, ethics, and competencies that govern their behaviour and interactions. Conflict Resolution:
The Code of Conduct can provide guidance for resolving conflicts or ethical dilemmas that may arise within the industry, helping to mitigate disputes.

It's important to note that a Code of Conduct is only effective if it is actively followed and enforced.
The IRCM encourages all consumers (clients, customers, students, members) to register concerns, requests for facilitation, or formal complaints with the Ombudsman Service to ensure that the Code of Conduct is effective.

The IRCM provides regular communication, training, and monitoring as necessary to ensure that industry members uphold the agreed-upon standards and ethics.

Additionally, Codes of Conduct do evolve over time to adapt to changes in the industry and address new ethical challenges.
The IRCM encourages all Registered Coaches, Mentors, Education Bodies, Training Organisations, and Professional Bodies to actively be involved in evolving the Codes of Conduct.
