.

IRCM CIC Steering Committee appointments & nominations:

This Steering Committee is a global committee which is made up of a small group of coaching and mentoring industry Stakeholders, Leaders, Experts, and representatives from each Industry Advisory Committee, who are appointed or nominated:

  • Stakeholders, Leaders, Experts are nominated by the Industry Direction Department, and appointed by the Industry Direction Director and IRCM CIC’s Board of Directors
  • 10 people representing Coaches and/or Mentors,
  • 10 people representing Education,
  • 10 people representing Organisations, and
  • Consumer representation.

This structure may be updated at any time and more specifically may be updated at the time when more elements of the industry are incorporated or the Consumers Advisory Committee is created.

The Steering Committee profile is individuals who:

  • cannot be a member of the IRCM CIC team (Members, Board, Staff).
  • have been an active part of the industry for a minimum of 15-20 years.
  • have a proven track record in the industry.
  • have a proven record in shaping the industry.

This profile may be updated at any time and more specifically may be updated at the time the Consumers Advisory Committee is created.

The Steering Committee is proposed by the Industry Direction Department, and nominated by the Industry Direction Director and the IRCM CIC’s Board of Directors:

  • In October each year:
    • the Director of Industry Direction reviews the Steering Committee and the proposals for new/replacement Steering Committee members made by the Industry Direction Department.
    • requests that the IRCM CIC Board accepts or proposes new/replacement Steering Committee members.
There is no restriction to the length of time a Steering Committee member may be active within this Committee, but it is within the remit of the IRCM Industry Direction Department to review the involvement of each member and their commitment to this process.
  • At the beginning of December, the Director of Industry Direction emails each member inviting them to remain or join the Steering Committee and provides details on the process.
  • Once all members of the Steering Committee are confirmed, they will be requested to elect their Officers (Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and Secretary) and provide details to the Director of Industry Direction. The IRCM CIC will facilitate this process through email introductions and the offer of online conference facilities.

It is important that the people elected can differentiate between ‘general’ (coaching and mentoring) and ‘specific’ (coaching or mentoring) recommendations, and that they have an understanding of language, cultural and geographical differences.

.
There is no restriction to the length of time a Steering Committee member nominated by their organisation may remain as a member of the Steering Committee.  The only restriction is that they (1) meet the profile, (2) remains active on the Steering Committee, (3) remains a member of their nominating organisation and (4) the organisation remains REGISTERED/ACCREDITED with the IRCM CIC.

.
The Officers (Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and Secretary) of the Steering Committee are elected by the members of the Steering Committee.

The Officers and Members of the Steering Committees hold office for a period of no more than 1 year (1st January to 31st December), although there is no restriction to the number of times/years an officer may be appointed.

This Steering Committee will receive all recommendations from the individual Advisory Committees.

Each member of this Steering Committee will have an in-depth knowledge of the coaching and mentoring industry, the definitions of coaching and mentoring, and the existing Codes of Conduct - Standards, Ethics, and Core Competencies.

This Steering Committee will meet, using the IRCM CIC's digital platform, on a regular basis to use their in-depth knowledge; review the full the details of each recommendation; consider the recommendation in relation to the impact on other Advisory Committee responsibilities; take into account the impact these recommendations will have on all aspects/elements of the coaching and mentoring industry; and make an informed decision based their understanding of the issues within the industry.  For example, a recommendation to make a change to the Core Competencies in relation to Education must follow through to the codes applicable to the Individual Suppliers, and maybe to the Organisations.

It is important that when the recommendation is put forward from the Advisory Committee that this Steering Committee identifies which Advisory Steering Committee it came from and their reason for approving the change.

Where the recommendation impacts more than one aspect/element of the coaching and mentoring industry that each recommendation is reviewed taking each aspect/element into consideration, and included in the Steering Committee recommendation.

Where the recommendation impacts more than one code, it’s important that each code is reviewed, and included in the Steering Committee recommendation.

Where a recommendation is specific to language, culture, or geographical area; it is important that this is included in the Steering Committee recommendation.

This Steering Committee has the authority to decide whether the recommendations received from the individual Advisory Committee are put forward as approved recommendations to the relevant IRCM CIC Department.  Where this Steering Committee has questions that need to be clarified, or select to reject the recommendation, they will make their questions clear and, where applicable, provide full reasoning for rejection.

Approved recommendations are sent to the Industry Direction Director so that the relevant Code(s) of Conduct can be updated and announced.  Where the recommendation is not relevant to one of the IRCM CIC’s Codes of Conduct, they will send the information to the relevant Department, copying the Industry Direction Director.

Advice, guidance and/or recommendations that have raised questions or been rejected, will be sent to the Industry Direction Department with full details.  The Industry Direction Department will make the decision on how to progress.

It is important that this Steering Committee identifies any advice, guidance or recommendation that might conflict with the existing codes or a new and approved advice, guidance or recommendation.

This Steering Committee has the added responsibility to work with the Industry Direction Department on other industry-related areas i.e. identifying and building relationships with organisations the IRCM CIC works closely with and is/should be Recognised By.
