Steering and Industry Advisory Committees

There are currently two levels to the IRCM CIC’s Industry Direction Committee structure:

  • Steering Committee
    • comprised of coaching and mentoring industry Stakeholders, Leaders, Experts, and representatives from each Industry Advisory Committee.
    • brings together the issues discussed and resolutions proposed by the Industry Advisory Committees, where a single issue covers more than one section of the industry.
    • makes the final decisions as to the issues discussed and resolutions proposed by the Industry Advisory Committees for the single internationally recognised industry codes of standards, ethics, and core competencies.
    • clarifying the impact of language, culture, and geographical differences on the coaching and mentoring industry.
    • makes the final decisions on the future of the coaching and mentoring industry.
    • work closely with the Industry Directions Department on other projects, for example, identifying and registering/renewing with organisations/bodies that the IRCM CIC is and should be ‘Recognised By’; clarifying niche markets, etc.

Consumers Advisory Committee will be added to the structure in a later phase of the Industry Direction Department development; will have the opportunity to provide feedback into the Industry Advisory Committees, and will be solely responsible for IRCM CIC’s Consumer Code.

Steering Committee
  • Industry Advisory Committees
    • the Industry Advisory Committees are specifically responsible for understanding and addressing issues, reviewing and providing recommendations for changes, updates, amendments, and additions to:
      • Unified Code of Industry Ethics and Standards
      • Unified Coaching and Mentoring Industry Core Competencies
      • and all other relevant IRCM CIC Codes and Industry issues.
    • in reviewing the industry issues, the Industry Advisory Committees may provide recommendations for the future of the coaching and mentoring industry.
    • the current three Industry Advisory Committees have specific responsibilities:

Coaches and Mentors Industry Advisory Committee is responsible for all elements of the coaching and mentoring industry which relates to the way in which the individuals who call themselves Coaches and/or Mentors, are working.

  • comprised of all Professional Bodies (representing their accredited/credentialed coaches and mentors) who are registered or accredited with the IRCM CIC.

  • survey’s and requests for information are submitted to all Coaches and/or Mentors who are registered with the IRCM CIC.

The Coaches and Mentors Advisory Committee is responsible for understanding the issues relating to coaches and mentors working within this industry, researching and reviewing these issues and putting forward recommendations for:

  • Codes of Industry Ethics and Standards
  • Unified Coaching and Mentoring Industry Core Competencies
  • and all other relevant IRCM CIC Codes and Industry issues.

It is important that this Advisory Steering Committee takes into account new skills, techniques, tools, etc. that are being incorporated into training through the Education/Training Advisory Committee but it is not the responsibility of the Coaches and Mentors Advisory Committee to consider the education side of coaching and mentoring.  This Advisory Committees responsibility is to focus on the codes required to work with consumers (clients, students, and members).

Education, Training, and Continuing Professional Development Industry Advisory Committee is responsible for all elements of the coaching and mentoring industry which relates to the coaches and mentors learn their skills, tools, techniques, etc.  This Industry Advisory Committee covers the initial education and training, as well as the on-going professional development expected of each coach and/or mentor.

  • comprised of all Formal Education Bodies and Professional Bodies (representing their accredited/credentialed private commercial training organisations) who are registered or accredited with the IRCM CIC.

  • survey’s and requests for information are submitted to all Private Commercial Training Organisations who are registered with the IRCM CIC.

  • N.B. the Education Advisory Committee has the final decision over what needs to be included in the IRCM CIC’s Codes for training/education.  Where there is a dispute between the Coaching/Mentoring and/or Education Advisory Committees, the dispute must be raised with and resolved by the Steering Committee.

The Education, Training, and Continuing Professional Development Industry Advisory Committee is responsible for understanding the issues relating to all education, training, and continuing professional development within this industry, researching and reviewing these issues and putting forward recommendations for:

  • Codes of Industry Ethics and Standards
  • Unified Coaching and Mentoring Industry Core Competencies
  • and all other relevant IRCM CIC Codes and Industry issues.

Organisational Industry Advisory Committee is responsible for all elements of the coaching and mentoring industry which relates to how organisations operate within the coaching and mentoring industry; as well as those industries outside the coaching and mentoring industry who employ (directly or indirectly) coaches and/or mentors.

  • comprised of all Professional Bodies (representing their own organisation and their accredited/credentialed coaches, mentors, and private commercial training organisations) and Formal Education Bodies (representing their own organisation) and Commercial Organisations (representing their own organisation) who are registered or accredited with the IRCM CIC.

  • survey’s and requests for information are submitted to all Coaches, Mentors, and Private Commercial Training Organisations who are registered with the IRCM CIC.

The Organisational Industry Advisory Committee is responsible for understanding the issues relating to the professional running and operating of a business, organisation, or formal education body, including the professional behaviour of all levels of staff (owners, directors, managers, administrators, tutors, trainers, etc.).  By understanding the issues around the requirements of running an organisation, researching and reviewing these issues, and putting forward recommendations for:

  • Codes of Industry Ethics and Standards
  • Unified Coaching and Mentoring Industry Core Competencies
  • and all other relevant IRCM CIC Codes and Industry issues.
